On the sixth anniversary of the Shingal Genocide, PUK Leadership expressed the necessity of the participation of the Kurdish political forces along with the Iraqi government and the international community in the process of Shingal’s revival and the return of its indigenous people to the land of their parents and grandparents.

"Today we remember the sixth anniversary of the Shingal tragedy and Yazidi genocide, we recall the tragedy with deep sadness and call for a prosperous future for the families of the victims." PUK leadership stated in a message, calling on the concerned authorities of the international community, the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to expedite the definition of the Shingal tragedy as a crime of genocide before a high court and punish ISIS terrorists and others that were involved in the heinous crime.

Despite the horror of the catastrophe, and after the lapse of six years since the black day 3/8/2014, the wounds of the Yezidi brothers and sisters have not healed yet.

Dozens of families have been displaced. The fate of thousands of Yazidi girls, children, and men is still unknown. Tens of thousands of elderly and injured people in displacement camps are far from their areas and their dear ones, noting that the duty of all parties away from slogans is to put an end to this bad situation for the Yazidis after the genocide and support the normalization of people's lives in Shingal, far from narrow conflicts and partisan interests, the protection of Yezidis, the identity of our people, a culture of coexistence and religious pluralism, the leadership added.

It is necessary for the Kurdish political forces to participate side by side with the Iraqi government and the international community in the process of reviving Shingal and the return of its indigenous people to the areas of their parents and grandparents. It is the duty of the government and the concerned authorities to feel the responsibility of finding missing Yazidi brothers and sisters. Our duty is not to forget the Yezid martyrs, and we are certain that the sacrifices of the Peshmerga forces and the unity of the people of the Kurdistan Region are standing in the way for other ISIS plans to success and occupy Kurdistan.

We in the leadership of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan are at a time that we value the injustice and sacrifices of the Yazidis, and we emphasize cooperation and full support. We declare that our struggle is to protect and achieve the legitimate demands of the Yazidis, which is the goal of all of the people of Kurdistan.
