On January 15, 2019, Iran's foreign minister Muhammed Javad Zarif visited Kurdistan Region and held some important meetings with the region's officials.

"Iran has good relations with the Kurdistan Region and that both sides need each other" Zarif remarked.

The Iranian foreign minister said following the meeting that Iran and the Kurdistan Region need each other to preserve security in the region.

“We need each other. We cannot progress without each other. We cannot preserve security without each other,” Zarif pointed out.

Moreover, he also went to add that" Tehran is a trustworthy partner for the Kurdistan Region. The Kurdistan Region is an important neighbor for us."
