PUK co-leaders ask U.S to play role to ensure the livelihood of people is no longer mixed with political conflicts

PUK co-leaders, Lahur Talabany and Bafel Talabani, received the United States Consul General to Erbil, Rob Waller, on Tuesday, Jan 19.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on political, economic, and security developments and the issue of early elections in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq and reiterated on continuous work to pave the way for serious dialogue to overcome the obstacles. They restated the need for efforts to solve the outstanding problems for the sake of providing a better life for the people and to maintain security in the region.

"We stressed on implementation of decentralization within the framework of our agreement with the Kurdistan Democratic Party and for the PUK to be a real partner in the government, which we consider an important point in enforcing the work of the government and better preserving the entity of the Kurdistan Region as well as better serving the people and offering more services to all the provinces in the Kurdistan Region. We reiterated the PUK’s readiness for joint work, coexistence and preserving the Kurdistan Region between all the factions." Lahur Talabany wrote in his Facebook account.

"We asked the United States to play its role in reconciling the differing views of all the factions and assisting in settling the problems to overcome this stage and eliminating all the outstanding problems between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi Federal Government within the framework of the constitution, to guarantee the people’s rights and to ensure that the livelihood of the people is no longer mixed with political conflicts." He added.

PUK co-leaders extended their gratitude to the US Consul General for his continuous efforts and cooperation with all the factions to find appropriate settlement for a final agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government. On their side, the US delegation reiterated their offer of more medical assistance to the Kurdistan Region.
