PUK co-chair Lahur Talabany welcomed Mullah Najmadeen, head of the Slemani branch of the Kurdistan Islamic Scholars Union and the delegation accompanying him, on Monday Feb 1.

In the meeting, they discussed the general situation, religious coexistence, cooperation, and the strengthening of relations between them.

"We pointed to the important role and position of religious teachers in all stages and periods of time, where they have always played a prominent role in serving and defending our people, our national values, and the holy religion of Islam, and played a central role in maintaining unity, tolerance, and coexistence. Religious teachers continue to have a great place in the Kurdish community." Lahur Talabany wrote in his Facebook account.

Both sides exchanged ideas about the current situation, including the issue of decentralization for all the provinces of the Kurdistan Region, which has become a general desire.

In regards the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government, Talabany emphasized that the problems need careful and wise solutions, and that the efforts should continue in this way and that we should all support agreements to solve the problems, provide salaries and a decent life for the citizens.

"As the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Presidency, we reaffirmed our support for the work and projects of religious scholars and the Slemani branch of the Kurdistan Islamic Scholars Union and called on religious teachers to continue their important and progressive role in the society in directing and encouraging people to do good and educating the community in all social ways of political enlightenment and patriotism, which is a great participation in the development of society." PUK co-chair added.
