KRG imposes lockdown as coronavirus cases rise

As a result of the increased number of the coronavirus infections in the Kurdistan Region, the Interior Minister of Kurdistan Region issued a statement, imposing partial lockdown from Wednesday onwards.

“The banning of automobiles and pedestrians will start from 8pm to 6am of Wednesday in the cities of Erbil, Slemani, Duhok and Halabja, and the administrations of Raparin and Germian.” The statement said.

The decree lasts until Monday, April 12.

However, the decision will not include the vehicles of UN, NGOs, diplomats, security forces, ambulances, journalists, oil companies, and communication companies.
The supreme committee also said trade exchange between the Kurdistan Region’s provinces and administrations with other provinces under the federal government’s control would continue.

The KRG also imposed a ban on travel between the Region and other Iraqi provinces on Monday, as part of measures to curb the coronavirus outbreak.
