The Kurdistan Region's President Nechirvan Barzani visited the politburo of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in Slemani to discuss the latest political developments with PUK Co-Leaders and members of political bureau, on Tuesday, May 4,2021.
Regarding the meeting, PUK Co-leader Lahur Talabany wrote in his Facebook account, "Today with Bafel Talabani and members of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s Politburo and Executive body, I welcomed Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, and the deputies of the President, Sheikh Jaafar Mustafa and Mustafa Said Qadir in Dabashan. In the meeting, we discussed the latest developments, the current political situation, the relations between the political parties, the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, the upcoming election of the Iraqi parliament, and the issue of drafting a new constitution for the Kurdistan Region."
He added, "We emphasized the continuation of comprehensive dialogue and the need to unify ranks and coordination between all the factions for mutual understanding. We added that we need to work to restore confidence to resolve the problems within the framework of the signed agreements between us, especially on strategic and patriotic issues, to preserve our people’s high interests."
Both sides stressed on finding a peaceful environment and to put aside political conflicts within a joint framework that is acceptable for all, and to preserve the achievements and interests.
"We thanked the President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani for his national role in bringing the parties and the different views closer together. We highlighted upon the problems that have deepened the conflicts at hand and reaffirmed the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s view regarding unity between the parties and reaching a common vision to overcome the challenges." Lahur Talabany pointed out.
PUK Co-leaders also discussed their views on projects and decisions that should serve in the highest interests of the people of Kurdistan. They relayed that consolidating understanding between PUK and KDP parties is necessary and for this to be held in the public’s highest interest, to further defend the national rights and to strengthen the Kurdish position in Baghdad, especially in the disputed territories. They added that it is crucial not to lose the Kurdish voices.
