Peaceful coexistence among ethnicities of disputed areas will be achieved via cooperation between Peshmarga and Iraq's army, PUK statement says

On Thursday, May 20, the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) held a meeting under the auspices of both Co-Leaders Bafel Talabani and Lahur Talabany, in Slemani.

Following the meeting, the council released a statement, highlighting key points described in the session.

In the meeting, in which a number of important topics were discussed, "The formation of Kurdistan Coalition list between PUK and Change Movement, and co-understanding among other political parties for the upcoming Iraq's parliamentary election, which is scheduled to be held on October 10, were considered important." the statement said.

It added, "The meeting explained that this coalition and co-understanding will lead to stability, harmony and unity of Kurdistan which are very necessary for the triumph of electoral process and democracy."

The Leadership Council, during the meeting, shed light on the security, political and service aspects of the disputed areas in general, and Kirkuk and Khanaqin in particular. "The council believes the best way of providing security, stability and peaceful coexistence among different ethnicities of the disputed areas will be achieved via cooperation between Kurdistan Peshmarga forces and Iraq's army and security forces." the statement pointed out.

Regarding the livelihood of Kurdistan Region's people, the Leadership Council emphasized on the necessity of implementing Iraq's 2021 budget law which has been approved by the Iraq's House of Representative, which will render the provision of Kurdistan Region's financial quota.

Another part of the session was allocated for the party's internal affairs.
