On Sunday morning, Jun 20, PUK Co-Leader Lahur Talabany participated in the second congress of the Kurdistan Veteran Peshmerga Association, and delivered a speech addressing the Kurdistan Veteran Peshmerga Association as the backbone of Kurdish nation.
"Kurdistan Veteran Peshmerga Association is the backbone of our nation, a living history of sacrifice, the united symbol of the Peshmerga forces and those who are worthy of praise for their great service." Lahur Talabany said.
He emphasized that this group has become a home for tens of thousands of tireless strugglers, they are the pillar of those who have struggled for strength and knowledge, and they are a fire of sacrifice for the oppressed people of Kurdistan to succeed.
"We reiterated our pride and declared that this group is a great honor because it is a party-based Kurdistan front. They are a great source of pride for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), for its people to have this important center. We emphasized the support of the PUK for its respected members and consider this group a part of its moral, historical, political, and Kurdish duty." He added.
PUK Co-Leader reiterated that PUK has promised to provide for the demands of the Kurdistan Veteran Peshmerga Association in Kurdistan. "This group is the representative of the civil demands of the Kurdistan Peshmerga and therefore another source of pride for us. I suggested to the respected congress that, with the renewal of the presidency and high leadership, to renew the group's plans and programs." He stated.
He also mentioned that it can be an example for the unification of the Peshmerga forces, under the leadership of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Peshmerga Ministry. He reiterated that they, as the PUK, have a role and have put the efforts forth to unite the Peshmerga forces.
"Our aim is for the Peshmerga forces to be a trained, strong national force and to never have to participate in a senseless internal fight, nor for us or anyone else. This should be a force to defend the high values of Kurdistan." He highlighted.
