The Co-Leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Jalal Talabani, met up on Sunday with the representatives of university students who demonstrated against the government in a bid to return their monthly given stipends, which have been stopped since 2014.

The meeting was held in Dabashan mount of Slemani, and lasted eight hour.

 Following the meeting, Talabani said “We listened to the students’ demands..I really expected the government to have taken care of them better. Sadly, we haven’t been able to meet their demands. We will find a mechanism to meet their demands,” 

Last week, hundreds of university and institute students demonstrated in the Kurdistan Region, calling on the government to resume payment of their monthly stipends. However, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided to allocate a budget for the ministry of higher education and scientific research to assist students who are in need and to solve the issues of dormitories.
