On Sunday, December 12, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Qubad Talabani. The meeting was held at Baghdad Palace.

Recent politics and security related- matters in the country were discussed during the meeting.
Talks focused on the importance of having further security military cooperation and coordination to address flaws in the security of certain parts of Iraq where the remaining cells of the extremism group known as the Islamic State (IS) threaten Iraqi citizens' lives and the safety of their towns.

 Both leaders agreed that solutions to the unresolved issues between the Federal government and the KRG should be worked out through holding positive dialogue.
This has to be done according to the Iraqi constitution, they added, with a focus on the meet the legitimate demands of the Iraqi people.
