Slemani Forestry Directorate thanked President Bafel Jalal Talabani's initiative to plant one million trees in a year, describing the step as important for tackling climate change.

Slemani Forestry Directorate said in a statement: "We welcome the initiative of President Bafel Jalal Talabani to plant one million trees in different parts of Kurdistan and consider it an important effort to combat climate change and desertification and reduce the effects of dust and global warming on the environmental balance of our region."

"We will continue our efforts to protect the forests and the environment and we ask citizens to help us and protect the forests by watering and preserving even a single tree," it added.
