On Wednesday, with the participation of Bafel Jalal Talabani, the president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and under the supervision of Nechirvan Barzani, the president of the Kurdistan region, and the presence of Jeanine Plasschaert, the special envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, the leaders of the political parties in the presidency of the region met and discussed the selection of the day of the parliamentary election and removing the obstacles to the election, and after the meeting, the presidency of the region published a statement reragrding the meeting.
"Today, Wednesday, 10/8/2022 under the supervision of Mr. Nechirvan Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Region and in the presence of Ms. Jeanine Plasschaert, special envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, held a meeting of the Kurdistan Regional Presidency with the Kurdish political parties regarding the upcoming Kurdistan Regional Government election." The statement read.
At the meeting, president Nechirvan Barzani thanked Ms. Plasschaert and the political parties, and hoped that the political parties will reach an agreement to specify the election day.
"The delay in the election will harm the name and position of the Kurdistan Region." Barzani said.
The statement added, "Ms. Plasschaert expressed all the support of the United Nations for the success of the election process."
In the end, it was decided that at the beginning of next September, the last meeting shall be held to complete the election process and solve the problems in front of it, and the presidency of the Kurdistan Region and political parties will continue to negotiate and prepare with the help of the UNAMI expert team.
